Forrest Gump/Water for Elephants (HIST 106--Hockstra): Getting Started/Getting Help

Guide to resources on the historical periods feature in the novels Forrest Gump (Vietnam/Civil Rights/1960s-1970s) and Water for Elephants (The Great Depression/1930s).

Getting Started

Welcome to the guide for Tom Hockstra's History 106 class for Summer 2017. In this guide, you will find information that will help you place the novels you are assigned to read, Forrest Gump and Water for Elephants, in their historic context. Though fictional, both novels are set in and reference real historical events such as the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement (in Forrest Gump) and the Great Depression (Water for Elephants).

If you need help, don't hesitate to contact me or one of the other librarians to assist you.
