Here is a brief list of resources I tested prior to the Democracy Lab presentation. Some of the links below are compilations of resources, not all of which I tested. When possible, it is advisable to use tools that are offered by reputable tech companies. Exercise caution before downloading apps or extensions from unknown sources. These are provided solely for your reference and are not offered as recommendations from library staff, although I did include my personal thoughts as promised:
Bot Sentinel - Did not work for me, but previous reviews indicated some usefulness
DeepFake-O-Meter - Compilation of 11 image, 6 audio, and 7 video deepfake detectors. Results and processing times vary widely, and you may wish to leave your tab open and come back to this tool after a few hours if you are using multiple tools at once or analyzing a large file.
GTPZero - Analyzes text to determine probability of AI generation. This did very well with the AI prompts and bot text I checked.
MerlinAI - Similar to GTPZero in terms of functionality and results.
Texas Tech AI Guide - Excellent compilation of resources from Texas Tech. I did not have nearly enough time to check all of these, but the ones I did check had widely varying quality (AI Art Detector did not successfully detect the pics we showed; Detectortools includes some extensions and tools that look questionable).
